Public order incident, Newry

Police in Newry responded to reports of a disturbance involving a number of people in the Dublin Road area of the city at around 4.20pm on Monday 5 October.

Police attended and 9 males were arrested.  During the disturbances, there was a report of a shot being fired.  The Dublin Road was closed for a period to allow police to deal with the disorder.

Army Technical Officers attended to examine a suspected firearm that was recovered and later removed for further examination.  A number of other items were also recovered from the scene.  One male was sustained a non life-threatening injury to his body during the disturbance, but at this stage, it is not thought that the injury was caused by a gun-shot.  A number of vehicles were also removed from the scene.
