Safety Roadshow, Craigavon
10 Oct 2009
The Police Service of Northern Ireland's Community Safety Team for Craigavon recently organised a 'Slow Down' Road Safety event in partnership with Portadown Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
The event - which was designed to inform and challenge new young drivers in their attitudes to driving and other road users - aimed to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads and to make our communities and neighbourhoods safer.
Taking part at Portadown College were Year 13 students (17 years) who are embarking on their driving careers.
The event included a DVD presentation and personal accounts from professionals who have attended serious and fatal road traffic collisions, including Constable Chris Hazlett, PSNI Families Liaison Officer. Information about relevant legalisation was also available.
To conclude, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service personnel demonstrated the extraction of a casualty from a vehicle.
