Murder inquiry launched after assault victim dies

The PSNI Serious Crime Branch has launched a murder enquiry after a 21 years old man died following an assault in Cookstown, County Tyrone.
Leslie Parkes, from Knockmoyle in the town, died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on September 28 2009. A 20-year-old man appeared in court last week charged with assault.
Detectives are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the incident. The attack happened in the Molesworth Street area of Cookstown close to a nightclub during the early hours of Saturday 19 September.
Police believe a large number of people were in the area at the time and they are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident. Cookstown detectives can be contacted on 0845 600 8000. The Crimestoppers charity can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
