Nine arrested during anti-crime operation, Ballymena and North Antrim
28 Sep 2009
The police have arrested nine people during an anti-crime operation designed to disrupt and detect criminal activity in the Ballymena and North Antrim areas. During the 4 day operation, police stopped and checked numerous vehicles resulting in 9 arrests for offences that include, theft, possession of controlled drugs, drink driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and public order offences. Several people were also detected for a variety of motoring offences.
A small quantity of controlled drugs, an offensive weapon, and two petrol-powered generators, believed to be stolen property, were also recovered.
Inspector John Allen said, “The anti-crime operation took place as a result of working with the community and listening to the concerns of people living in rural areas across Ballymena and North Antrim. I believe that the success of the operation will not only encourage the public to come forward with information about crime in their area, but will also serve to send a strong message to those who engage in criminal activity in the North East. Policing with the community works and in partnership with local residents we will continue to take a robust approach to crime in the area.”
Many of those arrested are expected to appear at Court later.
