Second night of disturbances, Mountpottinger
02 Sep 2009
On Tuesday evening Police responded to a second night of minor disturbances in the Albertbridge Road and Mountpottinger interface areas of East Belfast.
A number of petrol bombs and other missiles were thrown at police. One officer received a facial injury when he was hit with a missile in the face. The area was restored to calm around 2:30am.
Three people were arrested for riotous behaviour, riotous behaviour and possession of petrol bomb and disorderly behaviour. They are currently helping police with their enquiries.
Area Commander Chief Inspector John McKeag condemned the second night of disturbances. He said; “Although the disturbances were on a much less scale that the night before, this behaviour is still totally unacceptable. Local residents deserve to live in peace and I can assure the community that we are continuing to work to bring those responsible before the courts at the earliest opportunity.
“A team of dedicated officers has been set up to achieve this and I am confident that further arrest will be made over the next few days.”
Chief Inspector McKeag concluded, "I would also urge local community and elected representatives to assist police in their efforts to dissuade this unacceptable behaviour."
