Shooting incident, Vianstown Road, Downpatrick

A male has sustained injuries to both legs following a shooting incident in the Vianstown Road area of Downpatrick on Tuesday evening, 8 September.

Shortly before 9pm, the victim was walking along the Saul Road when he was forced into a dark coloured Renault car.  The victim was then driven to the Vianstown Road area where the incident occurred.  It is understood at this stage that four males were involved in the shooting and the four then left the scene in the dark coloured car heading out of Downpatrick on the Vianstown Road.

The victim remains in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.

A motive for the shooting is being investigated and detectives are appealing for information.  Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact CID at Downpatrick on 0845 600 8000.  Alternativley, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
