Attempted robbery, Bangor
09 Apr 2010
Detectives in Bangor, County Down, are investigating an attempted robbery at The Square in Kilcooley on Thursday 8 April.
Shortly before 10am, a cash-in-transit guard was approaching nearby commercial premises when he became aware of a man running towards him from the side of the building.
The man approached the guard and, when realising that the guard was not in possession of a cash box, he struck him twice on the head causing his protective helmet to fall off. The would-be robber then made off on foot, empty-handed, accompanied by another male.
The man who approached the guard is described as being around 6’ tall, wearing a black woollen hat with a light coloured line around it, a black jacket and blue denim jeans. His accomplice is believed to have been wearing a grey coloured hooded top.
No weapons were seen during the incident and there are no reports of any injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have noticed two men fitting these descriptions in the area of Kilcooley Square or running from the scene to contact detectives at Bangor on 0845 600 8000.
