Explosion, Spruce Meadows, Derry

Police in Londonderry are investigating an incident in the Spruce Meadows area of the city during which a pipe bomb type device exploded at the front of a house shortly before 1.30am this morning (Monday 19 April). The blast caused extensive damage to a car and some damage to the front of the house. Two adults and five children were in the house at the time however there are no reports of any injuries.
ATO were tasked to examine the scene and removed the remains the device for further examination. A number of nearby houses were evacuated for a short time.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in the Spruce Meadows area around this time or anyone with information to contact them at Strand Road 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
