Hijacking incident, Derry

Police investigating a hijacking in Londonderry on Monday 19 April have issued an appeal for witnesses.

At around 7.30am a taxi was hijacked in the Lower Nassau Street area by several masked men, one of whom was armed.

The driver was put in the back of the car and then let out after a short distance.

The car, a silver VW Passat, was found destroyed by fire a few hours later a short distance across the Republic of Ireland border.

Detectives at Strand Road are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Lower Nassau Street area at the time and noticed suspicious activity. The number to call with any information is 0845 600 8000.
