Police return to scene of Newry Courthouse explosion

14 Apr 2010

Detectives investigating a car bomb explosion at Newry Courthouse in February 2010 have revisited the scene to talk to witnesses.

On Monday April 12, officers spoke to motorists and pedestrians in the area surrounding the courthouse in an effort to gather more information on two cars that were used in the attack.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Talbot said it was a miracle that no one was hurt when the explosion happened.

“There were people coming and going throughout the area when the car was abandoned and police officers were very close to it during evacuation"

“We went back to the scene to speak to members of the public about what happened.  In particular we are interested in the movements of two cars.  A dark coloured Mazda 6, (Registration 09 MH 2297) in which the bomb was carried, and a light coloured Renault Laguna (Registration 01 D 27256).

“Leaflets with pictures of these cars were circulated by officers at the scene, and information we received from the public during our revisit is being studied as part of this investigation,” said the detective.
