Taxi driver robbed, Newtownards

Police are investigating after a taxi driver was robbed in Newtownards in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is understood that two men got into the taxi at South Street in the town shortly before 3.30am and asked to be taken to the nearby West Winds area. When the taxi driver stopped the vehicle in the West Winds he was grabbed by the rear seat passenger and punched by the front seat passenger who demanded money. The taxi driver handed over a small sum of cash before breaking free and escaping from the vehicle. His vehicle was driven off by the men and was later found abandoned in Auster Park.
