Security alerts Antrim area

Police in Antrim received a call shortly after 2:30am this morning 9Thurs 12 Aug) that a suspect device had been left in these areas of Birch Hill Park and Steeple Green. A search has been carried out and nothing untoward has been found in this area to date.
However as police searched the surrounding area a pipe bomb type device was uncovered on the window sill of a home in the Beechfielld area. ATO were called and defused a viable device. A number of homes (approximately four) were evacuated. This incident is ongoing.
Police would remind members of the public that if they see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary they should not touch it but contact police immediately on 0845 600 8000.
