Aggravated burglary, Ballywalter

Detectives are appealing for information about an incident in Ballywalter, County Down.

At around 11.30pm on Monday 1 January, a man who was visiting his caravan in a caravan park at Whitechurch Road answered the door to four males.

The man, who is aged in his 60s, was assaulted and his hands were tied up before the men left with his car keys and items including cash and jewellery.

The thieves, one of whom was armed with a knife, attempted to steal the man's car but failed to do so and set it alight. They made their escape in a waiting car.

The man went to hospital today with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
