Theft of handbag, South Belfast

Detectives are appealing for information about an incident in Botanic Gardens, South Belfast.

At around 5pm today on Thursday 4 February, a woman aged in her 30s was walking towards the Stranmillis end of the park when she was approached by a teenage male who struck her to the face a number of times and took her handbag .

Most of the contents of the bag were found dumped nearby. The thief made his escape in the direction of Agincourt Avenue.

He is described as aged in his mid-teens, 5'4 to 5'5 in height, of average build and was wearing a black rainproof jacket with a hood and dark bottoms.

The woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries.
