Security alert, North Belfast

Shortly before 11pm on Thursday night (11 February) a vehicle was observed acting suspiciously at the rear of Antrim Road police station.  As police patrols responded to the area a vehicle made off from the scene.  The vehicle was stopped a short distance away and a number of houses in the area of Cliftonville Parade were subsequently evacuated while Army Technical Officers were called to examine it.  Nothing was found in the car and residents were allowed back to their homes shortly after 4am.

Five police officers were injured and two police vehicles damaged during a collision with the suspect vehicle.  None of the injuries are described as serious.  A nineteen year old man was arrested and has been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite.
