Detectives arrest man over 1989 murder

A 58-year-old man was arrested by detectives investigating the murder of an elderly woman in Belfast, County Antrim, 21 years ago.

Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch are carrying out new inquiries into the murder of 80-years-old Mrs Annabella Symington who was found strangled in her home at Willesden Park in the Stranmillis area of south Belfast on 31 October 1989.

The suspect was arrested in the Carrickfergus area on the morning of January 26 2010 and questioned at the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police Station, County Antrim.

Police have renewed their appeal for information about the murder which happened on Hallowe'en.
