Armed robbery with samurai type sword, East Belfast

31 Jan 2010

Detectives in east Belfast are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a take-away restaurant on the Beersbridge Road late last night.

Shortly after 11.30pm a male brandishing what's believed to have been a samurai sword entered the take-away and demanded money, threatening staff with the sword.  He was given a small amount of cash from the till.  At that point an accomplice came into the premises and persuaded the robber to leave.  Both males then ran out of the shop and turned left along Beersbridge Road.

Both males are thought to be in their late teens.  The robber with the sword was about 5ft 7 tall, slim and wearing a waist-length green jacket and black balaclava.  He spoke with a Belfast accent.  His sword was about 2ft long with a thin blade.

Detectives are keen to talk to anyone who was in the vicinity and who may have seen the culprits either before or after the robbery.  Anyone with any information is asked to phone 0845 600 8000.  Alternatively information may be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
