Man shot, West Belfast

A man in his 30's has been shot in the leg by one of three of men who entered his house off the Suffolk Road, west Belfast, around 6.30pm this evening. It is understood that the men demanded that the victim hand over a number of legally held firearms. When he refused to do so he was shot in the leg by one of the intruders. The men, two of whom wore balaclavas, the other one with a scarf over his face, made off with a number of legally held weapons. The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Shortly after 7.15pm three males dressed in dark clothing called at a house in the Ballymurphy Road area. They forced the occupant to hand over a number of legally held weapons and ammunition before making off. The occupant of the house is being treated for shock.
Police are investigating a link between the two incidents and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Suffolk Road or Ballymurphy Road areas around these times or who may have any information to contact Detectives at Grosvenor Road on 0845 600 8000.
