24 Jul 2010
Detectives are investigating following an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery at two bookmakers in Belfast on Friday night, 23rd July.
At around 7.30pm it was reported two males wearing motorcycle helmets had entered premises at Winetavern Street. One of the males threatened staff members with a knife and demanded cash.
Staff refused locking themselves in the back of the shop and activating an alarm. Both men then made off empty handed.
At around 7.50pm staff at a bookmakers at Springfield Road reported two males wearing motorcycle helmets had robbed the shop at knifepoint. Staff had locked themselves in the rear of the shop and the robbers made off with a small sum of cash from the tills.
In both cases the individuals involved are believed to have made their escape on a small red coloured motorcycle.
At this time police believe the two incidents are linked and would appeal for anyone with information or anyone who saw a red motorcycle in either area to contact them. They are particularly keen to speak with a male customer believed to have been in the Springfield Road shop at the time of the robbery. The number to call is 0845 600 8000.
