Armed robbery, East Belfast

Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in east Belfast this afternoon. A driver was making a delivery to a shop in the Clarawood area shortly after 2.30pm when he was confronted by a man with a scarf covering his face and carrying a handgun. The driver was made to lie down in the rear of his van while the man removed a number of bags containing cigarettes and passed them to an accomplice in a waiting car.
The men made off in a silver coloured car towards the Knock Road carriageway. Witnesses report hearing what sounded like a gunshot as the car sped off from the scene. There are no reports of any injuries.
