Tackling Domestic Abuse in E District
14 Jul 2010
During the holiday period, Police in E District are encouraging victims to report incidents of domestic abuse.
As part of the ongoing advertising campaign to tackle domestic abuse, police across E District have been working closely with other partner agencies including Women’s Aid and the local District Policing Partnership to encourage the reporting of incidents and underline the message to those suffering from abuse do not suffer in silence.
Sergeant Jennifer Rea of the Public Protection Unit believes the advertising campaign acts as a reminder that no one should have to suffer from domestic abuse.
“During the holidays, we would like to remind people that there is no excuse for domestic abuse this summer and that police will continue to tackle incidents in a robust manner.
“Victims of domestic abuse come from every walk of life and can be any age or gender, this is reflected in our recent advertising campaign which publicises the 24 hour domestic abuse helpline.
“Domestic abuse is a crime that we take very seriously, of course we want everyone to enjoy the holidays but we urge a sensible approach when consuming alcohol which can often be an aggravating factor."
