Organised Crime Branch operation, Lisburn

23 Jul 2010

Detectives from the PSNI Organised Crime Branch investigating a cash-in-transit robbery in Lisburn yesterday have arrested six men.

The robbery took place at Belsize Road in the town yesterday morning when a cash-in-transit van driver making a delivery was approached by a man carrying a knife who forced him to hand over a cash box. The robber got into a car and made off.

In a follow-up operation, OCB detectives searched a house in the Poleglass area where they arrested six men and recovered a cash box. A car has also been removed for forensic examination.

All six suspects have been taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Esmond Adair, from Organised Crime Branch, said: "After police and Organised Crime Task Force partners had worked hard to produce a substantial fall in the number of cash-in-transit robberies over recent years, there has been an increase so far this year. Organised Crime Branch is determined to tackle this trend robustly to protect the business community and the public. These arrests are an example of how police are delivering on that commitment. This is the second successful arrest operation in the past two months."
