Shooting incident, Strabane

A 29 yr old man has received gunshot wounds to both legs during a shooting incident in Glebe Gardens, Strabane. It is understood the man who is a taxi driver, called to pick up a fare in the area at 11pm. He was dragged from his vehicle by a number of men to a grassy area where he was beaten and shot once in the left thigh. It is believed the man attempted to escape and was shot again in the right leg. He is currently being treated in hospital where his condition is described as stable but not life threatening.
The assailants drove off in the man’s car, a dark coloured 7-seater, which was located, a short time later on the Orchard Road. The Orchard Road has been closed to traffic while the vehicle is examined.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident in Glebe Gardens or the vehicle abandoned at Orchard Road to contact detectives at Strabane on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
