Armed robbery, Kennedy Way, Belfast

27 Jun 2010

Detectives are investigating an armed robbery which occurred in the Kennedy Way area of west Belfast on Sunday morning, 27 June.

At approximately 10.30am police received a report that a number of masked males had entered a pizza take away in the area.

Officers responding to the report detained two males on the premises on suspicion of armed robbery.

Two other males are understood to have made off in a pizza delivery van prior to police arrival. The van was subsequently found on fire in the Airfield Heights area at 10.41am.

It's understood these males then took a taxi from Glen Road to the Lenadoon Avenue area before making off on foot without paying the driver.

A male employee at the take away who was threatened by the robbers was left shaken but physically uninjured.

Police are investigating the possibility that at least one of the robbers was armed with a handgun.

Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and detectives are keen to hear from witnesses. They can be contacted at Grosvenor Road on 0845 600 8000.
