Pipe bomb attack Strabane

Police are investigating after a car was damaged by an explosion in the Ballycoleman area of Strabane. The incident was reported shortly after 12.30am this morning. It is understood that a window was broken on the VW Bora and a pipe bomb type device was placed inside the car by one of a number of masked men who were seen around the vehicle. The device exploded causing substantial damage to the car.
A number of people, including the elderly and young children were evacuated from their homes during the incident. They have now been allowed back to their houses.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have any information to contact detectives at Strabane on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
