Serious assault, Kilkeel

A 22yr old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an assault in Kilkeel. The incident took place in Newry Street shortly before 1am this morning (Sunday). The victim is being treated for a stab wound under his arm and cuts to his face. His condition is described a serious but not life threatening.
Police are keen to speak to the occupants of a white van which drove through the square in Kilkeel towards Newcastle around this time and may have witnessed the incident.

A 43yr old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
