Successful night for Police Service at Workplace Awards

18 Jun 2010

The Police Service of Northern Ireland claimed two of the top prizes at the Irish News Employment and Workplace Awards held last night.

The event, which was hosted by journalist Karen Patterson, celebrated local organisations and individual’s positive contribution to the workplace environment.

The Police Service received ‘Best Creative Recruitment Advertisement Award’ for their recent campaign highlighting the opportunities of a career in the organisation. Local agency AV Browne designed the advertisement.

Judges in this category were seeking an eye-catching design, while meeting necessary legal standards. The unprecedented numbers of recruits applying for a limited number of positions was a further endorsement to the campaign.

Success continued for the Police Service, in the ‘Work, Life and Wellbeing Award – Large Organisation’ category.

Good practice in areas such as flexible working, maternity/paternity leave and employee health and welfare were some of the pre-requisites for entry into this category.

Among the panel of judges on the night were Dotcom millionaire Sarah Newman, one of Ireland’s most successful business women.

Speaking after receiving the Work Life and Wellbeing Award, Occupational Health and Well-being  Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Geoff Crowther said: “This is a glowing tribute to the practices in place by the Police Service of Northern Ireland regarding occupational health and wellbeing.

“This prestigious Award is recognition of the innovative work carried out by PSNI HR Department as a whole, but more specifically it is a recognition of the staff of my Occupational Health and Well-being Branch of whom I am very immensely proud.”

Also congratulating the staff on the Awards Deputy Director of Human Resources Michael Cox said: "Winning the two awards is a wonderful accolade for Police Service.  I know that the Occupational Health and Well-being  and the HR departments within our organisation are continually looking at ways in which they can improve the working environment of our staff.”

Department of Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey congratulated all the winners for their success in placing a firm emphasis on individuals and their positive contribution to the Northern Ireland workplace.
