Murder of Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey - first anniversary appeal
On the first anniversary of the murders of Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Peter Farrar said:
“The police investigation into the murders of sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey remains active and ongoing.
Two men have been charged with their murder and the attempted murders of three other soldiers, the guard at Massereene and two fast food delivery men. During the investigation, thirteen others were also arrested and questioned in relation to what happened that night.
“One year on since this atrocity, Mark and Patrick’s families still feel a tremendous amount of grief. We can only hope that in time, that grief will ease,” said the policeman.
The detective said there are more people in the community who could have information that could help his officers.
“Officers from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch are leading this investigation and have been encouraged by the response from members of the public who have made contact with the investigation team to assist them with their enquiries. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support. It is obvious that the right thinking people of Northern Ireland abhor violence and do not want to relive the past,” he said.
“We believe there are others who have not yet come forward. They could provide police with information. It is to these people we make a direct appeal.
“If you were in the area of Randalstown Road, near Massereene Barracks on Saturday March 7 2009, between 9pm and 10pm, please call the incident room on 028944 81641. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers Charity on 0800 555 111,” said Detective Superintendent Farrar.
