Arrests and car recovered, Counties Down and Antrim

Police are appealing for information about the recovery of a car on the A1 close to the exist at Dromore, County Down, on the morning of Monday 24 May.

At around 5.45am, a red Volkwagen Golf car registered to the area of Dundalk, County Louth, was found destroyed by fire.

Initial enquiries suggest that the car had been stolen, however the circumstances are still being established.

Members of the public reported that the Golf car and a Peugeot 307 car had been seen in the area being driven in a suspicious manner.

At around 6.30am, a black Peugeot 307 car was stopped by police on the M1 offslip at Stockmans Lane. Four male occupants of the car, all aged in their 20s, were arrested in connection with the suspected theft of the VW Golf car. There is no indication at this stage at the 307 car was stolen.
