Fatboy Slim concert, further advice
08 May 2010
Police in North Belfast are keen for a Fatboy Slim concert on Saturday 8 May to go ahead with as little disruption to the community as possible.
While not expecting major delays, there may be traffic disruptions in and around the Dargan Road / Dargan Crescent / Giant’s Park area between 3pm and 7pm and concert-goers are advised to arrive early and avail of the public transport options laid on by the event organisers. Motorists not travelling to the event are asked to avoid the area if possible.
1. Road closure: Dargan Road between Duncrue Road and Dargan Crescent. Diversions will be in place between the hours of 2pm and 3am on Sunday and will be clearly sign-posted. If travelling to catch a ferry, please allow a little bit of extra time for your journey.
2. Police strongly recommend the following route to anybody dropping off concert-goers:
- Come off the M2 at Fortwilliam Roundabout.
- Take the Dargan Road, turn right onto Duncrue Road and drop your passengers on the left-hand side, just before Dargan Crescent. DO NOT MAKE A U-TURN. Instead, head back into the City Centre via Duncrue Road.
3. If travelling to the concert, leave yourself plenty of time to get there. If at all possible, use the shuttle busses laid on from the City Centre (pick-up point: College Square North).
4. If bringing your own vehicle, please be considerate when parking. Do not block residential or business access.
5. After the concert, use the shuttle-busses provided (for routes, see promoter website www.plmpromotions.com). Do not attempt to walk back to the City Centre on foot in the early hours of the morning. Under no circumstances attempt to walk on the M2 Motorway.
York Road Area Commander, Chief Inspector Ian Campbell appealed to concert-goers to keep safe when making their way home after the concert. “Make sure you have your journey home well planned. Use the buses supplied by the organisers or book a taxi. Stay with your friends and don’t attempt to walk back to the City Centre by yourself,” he added.
Chief Inspector Campbell reiterated police warnings that this was a drug-free event which would be strictly enforced by police and event security staff.
“We are working closely with the organisers to make sure that no illegal drugs will be brought into the venue. Consent to being searched by event security staff will be a precondition of entry. Anybody found carrying an illegal substance will be dealt with by the police and may be expelled from the concert immediately and will forfeit their ticket,” he added.
The event is for over-18s only. Alcohol must not be brought into the venue but can be purchased inside provided satisfactory ID can be produced.
