North West 200 races, traffic advice for race day
08 May 2010
The police are advising motorists travelling to the International North West 200 motorcycle races to arrive early as circuit roads will close at 10am sharp on Saturday 15 May.
Motorists should expect delays on all roads leading to and from the circuit and should make appropriate allowances in order to complete their journey safely.
This year the event organisers have provided a Park and Ride scheme for over 2,000 vehicles on Saturday 15 May. The facility will operate from Ballywatt, on the Portrush side of Ballybogey. Police would encourage as many people as possible to use this facility as it will help reduce delays, something which will benefit everyone.
While this is the first year a Park and Ride facility is being used, we would always advise motorists to be patient, follow the directions of police or event officials on the ground and plan ahead for delays, particularly after the event.
It is important that valuables are not left in cars, and that motorcycles and crash helmets are properly secured if left unattended.
Vehicles will be removed from the circuit once roads are closed.
Spectators should also remember that, for their own safety and the safety of the competitors, they should always obey the instructions of race marshals once circuit roads have closed.
Travel information will be released to local media during race week. Spectators can also see www.northwest200.org for latest event information.
