Prince of Wales welcomed to Police Headquarters
14 May 2010
Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Constable Matt Baggott today welcomed His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Police Headquarters, Brooklyn.
The Prince of Wales met with the Chief Constable, Senior Command Team, a number of officers, including injured officers, student officers and staff as well as several official guests including Dame Mary Peters DBE Lord Lieutenant of Belfast and Secretary of State Owen Paterson.
After planting a tree to commemorate his visit, the Prince of Wales then visited the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Garden as a guest of the RUC George Cross Foundation.
His Royal Highness previously visited Police Headquarters in 2003 when he officially opened the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Garden.
Mr Baggott said: "While it is very important and very much appreciated that the Prince of Wales has again paid tribute to the 302 officers killed and the many injured during the Troubles, as well as to Constable Stephen Carroll and our injured colleague Constable Peadar Heffron, we were honoured to welcome him today in a very different environment from the worst days of the past.
"During his visit the Prince of Wales heard about the continued dedication and commitment of police officers who are each and every day, working in the heart of their communities and he shared with me his pride and admiration for their excellent work," he said.
