Robbery, South Belfast
30 May 2010
Police are appealing for information after a woman in her eighties was robbed of her handbag at Finaghy Park Central on Saturday afternoon. It is understood that the lady was walking towards Finaghy Park South between 3.15pm and 3.30pm when she was pushed into a hedge by a male who grabbed her handbag from her before making off with two other males. All three ran off towards the railway halt where they are believed to have met up with a fourth male.
The woman was helped from the hedge by a member of the public. Although she was not injured she was said to be shaken by the incident. Her black coloured handbag contained a purse, an umbrella, bus pass and a small amount of cash.
The culprits are described as being between 16-18yrs old; one had a shaved head and was wearing a grey jacket. The two others had had dark coloured hooded tops.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw four males matching these descriptions acting suspiciously in the area of Finaghy or walking along the railway tracks towards Belfast. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact detectives at Musgrave Street on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
