Shots fired and assault, Strabane

A 25 year old old man has been shot and assaulted in a house in the Glebe Gardens area of Strabane, County Tyrone.

The incident happened at around midnight on the evening of Saturday 22 May into Sunday 23 May.

The man was in bed with his partner when the front door of the house was forced open and two masked men made their way to the bedroom.

The victim was assaulted with a wooden bat as he lay in bed. One of the men also fired a number of shots from a handgun, striking the victim in an arm and a leg.

His girlfriend, also aged in her twenties, was struck on the head during the attack. Both were taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening.

The man is understood to have received two gunshot wounds, one to his upper left leg and one to his left arm, as well as a suspected broken right arm. The woman received an injury to her head.
