Kevin Fletcher murder - detectives make public appeal

10 Sep 2010

Detectives investigating the murder of 32 years old Kevin Fletcher are making an appeal for information one week after he was found dead by his girlfriend at his Armagh home.

Kevin, who was unemployed, was discovered dead on his sofa at 1145am on Friday September 3. He had suffered stab wounds.

Senior Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Harkness, of the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch, said it was a brutalattack on a vulnerable man.

“This was a frenzied attack on a man who lived alone and was unable to defend himself against someone who was intent on causing utterly horrific injuries.

I have no doubt that this attack on Kevin was unprovoked. We have yet to establish a motive for this murder, but we are studying a number of lines of enquiry.

I cannot begin to imagine how Kevin’s girlfriend will come to terms with what she saw when she went into his flat last Friday morning.  Those closest to Kevin are inconsolable with grief.”

The DCI made an appeal to the public to help trace Kevin’s last movements.

“We know that Kevin was at a local bingo hall with his mother until around 10pm last Thursday night. Kevin’s father took Mrs Fletcher to a local bar and then took Kevin home, where he stayed and watched television with him until approximately 1030pm.

It was usual for Kevin to walk his dog around the apartment complex where he lived at around 11pm. We are appealing for anyone who was in Castle Street Armagh, between 1030pm on Thursday night and 1145am on Friday morning, and saw a man walking a small brown terrier type dog, or just the dog on its own, to come and talk to us”said the detective.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at the Incident Room on 02837 517390. Alternatively information on crime can be reported to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
