Suspicious incidents and social media, East Belfast

20 Jan 2011

It has come to the attention of police who are investigating a small number of suspicious incidents involving children and a vehicle in the East Belfast area that some members of the community have used social media to speculate on the identity of the car described in our appeals, in one case suggesting a registration.

This approach carries the obvious risk of unnecessary upset to an innocent party and we would ask members of the public to refrain from speculating in this way.

Anyone with information should contact police as our officers are best placed to investigate any reports of suspicious activity.

We would appeal to the public to continue to report any suspicious activity to the police by telephoning 0845 600 8000.
