Event Conclusion Message
07 Nov 2011
Police have thanked all those who attended events linked to the MTV Europe Music Awards, which attracted thousands of visitors to the city. The awards and related events were attended by international guests and broadcast around the world. Belfast was firmly in the spotlight of the world’s media.
Over the three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday police made 7 arrests and received very few reports of any other crimes.
B District Commander Chief Superintendent Alan McCrum, said he was delighted at the success of the event,
"On the whole we are extremely pleased at the public's co-operation over the three days. Motorists, although at times delayed due to traffic restrictions, largely heeded our advice.
“I would like to thank the visitors who attended events for their patience during what was a very busy policing operation. Our main aim was to ensure the safety of members of the public, event participants, visitors and those working at the events and I am happy we have achieved that.
“An event of this scale can only be delivered through effective and thorough partnership working and the MTV Europe Music Awards event has proved that Northern Ireland can host international events successfully and safely.
“I want to put on record my thanks to all the partners who delivered this event and who made it such a success."
