2013 World Police and Fire Games - Safety Information
A warm welcome awaits you for the 2013 World Police and Fire Games.
Welcome to Northern Ireland, the host for the 2013 World Police and Fire games (WPFG).
Belfast was awarded the Games in 2007 and since then the aim has been to make the 2013 WPFG the friendliest Games ever.
The Games are a biennial event for serving and retired police, fire, prison and border security officers. It is the third largest international multi-sport event in the world and will be the largest ever sporting event to take place in Northern Ireland - the third European host in the Games history.
This year’s Games take place between 1 -10 August. 56 sports will take place at 41 venues across Northern Ireland.
Up to 3,600 volunteers will support the delivery of the Games.
The opening ceremony will take place at the King’s Hall Belfast on 1 August. Titanic Slipways will host the closing ceremony on 10 August when the WPFG flag is handed over to 2015 hosts Fairfax, Virginia.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s overall responsibility is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in the 2013 World Police and Fire Games.
Recently, with the support of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, we successfully hosted the most peaceful G8 Summit in County Fermanagh as well as other high profile events including the Olympic Torch relay; the Irish Open Golf Tournament the European MTV Awards and the Queen’s Jubilee visit.
