Murder of James Gray
04 Oct 2005
Detectives investigating the murder of 47 years-old Jim Gray, are making an appeal for information on the first anniversary of his murder.
Mr Gray was shot a number of times in the back shortly after 8.00pm at Knockwood Park in the Clarawood Estate in east Belfast, County Antrim, on October 4 last year. He died from his injuries at the scene. Seven people have been arrested in connection with this murder, as yet, no one has been charged. A number of searches have also been carried out in the Castlereagh and east Belfast areas.
There has been some comment and speculation regarding the alleged criminal activities of Mr Gray, however the fact is he was brutally murdered, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland will fulfil its obligations in attempting to bring to justice those responsible for his murder.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the Knockwood Park area of east Belfast on October 4 2005, between 7.45pm and 8.15pm, to make contact with the Major Investigation Team at Ladas Drive on 0845 600 8000, or they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Police are also appealing for information on a vehicle that is believed to have been used by Mr Gray’s murderer. It was a blue Vauxhall Astra with the registration number MBZ 2522. That vehicle was found a short time afterwards on Geary Road in Belfast and it was badly damaged by fire. Anyone who saw the car being abandoned in Geary Road, or anyone who may have seen that vehicle being driven from Knockwood Park to Geary Road, is asked to contact police.

We would also like to speak to anyone who knows of the car’s movements a week before the murder.
Even if someone has information they think may not be significant, they are encouraged to get in touch and give us these details. They may hold vital information that could help us find Mr Gray’s killer.
