Murder of Jameson Lockhart - First Anniversary Appeal
01 Jul 2006
Police have made an appeal for information about the murder of Jameson Lockhart who was shot dead in east Belfast last year during the loyalist feud.
Detectives are making the appeal on the first anniversary of the murder in the hope that key witnesses will come forward.
25 year old Mr Lockhart was shot as he sat in a lorry in Templemore Avenue at its junction with the Lower Newtownards Road just after 10am on 1 July.
During their investigations, police have carried out 27 searches, made 13 arrests and spoken to more than 200 witnesses but to date no one has been charged in connection with Mr Lockhart’s murder.
The detective in charge of the investigation, Detective Superintendent George Clarke, said police did not want Mr Lockhart’s murder to become a forgotten statistic.
Detective Superintendent Clarke said: “Jameson Lockhart was shot dead as he started a day’s work. He leaves behind him a grieving family, including a baby son.
“Tensions have eased since last year but police remain determined to bring Mr Lockhart's murderers to justice.
“If we are to do that, to get justice for his family and take his killers off the streets, we need the support of the public. From my investigations I can say that people in east Belfast have shown that they want to assist police.
“But I believe that a number of witnesses have not yet told the police what they know. It is vital that these people come forward.”
Anyone with information about the murder or who was in the Templemore Avenue area on the morning of 1 July last year and saw what happened is asked to contact detectives at the incident room on 028 9070 0303 or 0845 600 8000.
