Attempted murder of police officer in County Tyrone
12 May 2008
Detectives have renewed their appeal for information about the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer in County Tyrone.
The constable sustained leg injuries when a bomb exploded under his car at Spamount, Castlederg, on Monday May 12.
He had been driving at Drumnabey Road to work in County Fermanagh at about 9.15pm when the device exploded under his blue Ford Focus car.
The car had not been used for several days beforehand and police believe the device was planted under it while it was parked at Erganagh Road, a short distance from the scene of the explosions.
Detective Inspector Ian Magee, the deputy senior investigating officer, said that police appreciated the assistance they had already received from local people.
He added: "We are, however, asking people in the area to search their memories again. Did you see any strangers on foot or in vehicles in the Erganagh Road area in the weeks before the incident?
"Those who tried to kill the officer will probably have scouted out the location beforehand. Local people are best placed to know what cars and which individuals are out of place.
"If you remember seeing any, please contact the detectives in the Major Investigation Team at Maydown police station. The telephone number is 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be given to the Crimestoppers charity in complete confidence. Their telephone number is 0800 555 111."
