Murder of Shaun Fitzpatrick

Detectives investigating the murder of 32 years old Shaun Fitzpatrick in Dungannon are making an appeal for information.

Mr Fitzpatrick's body was found at 3.30am in an alleyway off the Donaghmore Road. The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Nichol of the PSNI Major Investigation Team, said the victim had suffered a terrible attack.

"This was a brutal and horrific attack and we utterly condemn the actions of those involved. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend our condolences to Shaun's family"

"I am keen to piece together Shaun's movements on the night of March 23 2008. He was last seen leaving Donaghy's Bar in the William Street area of Dungannon at 2am. Shaun had been socialising there for most of the evening. Shaun's body was later discovered at an alleyway off the Donaghmore Road at approximately 3.30am."

Two people were arested in connection with the murder. The DCI made a direct appeal to the public for information.

"I am appealing to anyone who was socialising in Donaghy's Bar that night and seen or spoke to Shaun to come forward and talk to us. I would also ask anyone who saw Shaun walking from the bar, down Donaghmore Road between 2am and 3.30am or anyone who witnessed or heard an altercation on the pathway between numbers 30 and 36 Donaghmore Road around this time to contact us in Dungannon on 0845 600 8000.

Enquiries into this incident are continuing and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the wider community of Dungannon that we are doing everything in our power to find those responsible and bring them to justice. I would appeal to them to remain calm and assist us with our investigation. We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and carrying out house to house enquiries. I would ask all members of the community to give us any information you have, no matter how small. You may not think it is important but it could be crucial to our investigation.
