Murder of Thomas Hollran (First Anniversary Appeal)
17 Feb 2007
Detectives investigating the murder of 49-years-old Thomas Hollran in Carrickfergus are issuing a fresh appeal for information on the first anniversary of his death.
Mr Hollran was found by local residents in an alleyway between Woodburn Avenue and Cherry Walk in Carrickfergus around 10pm on Saturday 18 February, 2006. He had been severely beaten. He was treated for his injuries but died the next day.
Police are very keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cherry Walk around the time of the murder. The investigation team believe his murderers may have been seen running away. The senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Steven Clarke, said local residents could hold the key to finding who killed Mr Hollran:
“This was a barbaric attack on an innocent man. Thomas Hollran was savagely beaten and left to die by at least two men. Someone in the area, either a resident or a passer by, has information that could lead to the killers and I am appealing for these witnesses to contact police,” said the detective.
Police are also trying to trace two young witnesses in the area of Woodburn Avenue / Cherry Walk who reported the incident to a local resident. One wearing a white jacket, possibly manufactured by Adidas, the other wearing a dark grey padded jacket. It is understood that they had local accents, and left the area in a navy coloured Peugeot 306 car, travelling along Woodburn Avenue towards Woodburn Road.
An incident room has been established and detectives can be contacted directly at 028 90 561804 or 0845 600 8000, or Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
