Police Officers Honoured at Gala Awards Ceremony
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland were honoured at the Jane’s Police Review Gala Awards Ceremony in London last night (4 November).
Sergeant Brian Caskey from North Belfast came third in the Officer of the Year Category while the multi-agency Unite Against Hate Campaign was also awarded third place in the Diversity in Action Category.
Inspector John Kinkead from Coleraine picked up second place in the Lifetime Officer of the Year Category.
The Awards were presented by the Home Secretary, Theresa May.
Commenting on the outstanding achievement, Chief Constable Matt Baggott said:
“I am extremely proud of my colleagues. The Police Service of Northern Ireland was competing against over 50 other services from across the UK and achieved success in three of the four categories that we entered.
“This is a true illustration of the personal, professional, protective nature of the service.
“We are committed to challenging the issues that communities identify as priority and as these awards recognise, we do so with impartiality and absolute integrity. We will continue in our endeavours to deliver the worlds finest police service.”
Speaking after the Ceremony, Sergeant Caskey said: "I am delighted and privileged to have been nominated for this award. This is in recognition of the work that all police officers across the Service do on a daily basis.
“I know that the officers representing the Unite Against Hate Campaign and Inspector Kinkead are also extremely pleased to have been recognised in such a prestigious event.”

The Jane’s Police Review Awards are the National Awards for policing with the UK.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland are eligible to enter four categories in the Awards. Officer of the Year, Probation Officer of the year, Diversity in Action and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Unite Against Hate is a multi-agency campaign initiated by the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister, Equality Commission, Community Relations Council, Northern Ireland Office Community Safety Unit and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. It promotes leadership, optimism and hope and offers a practical channel to encourage empower and support people to express their opposition to hate crime. Inspector Jeremy Adams and Sergeant Cheryl Ross collected the Award on behalf of the Police Service.
