2010 DPP Public Consultation Survey results
12 Aug 2010
Speaking about the survey results, Chief Constable Matt Baggott said: "We welcome today’s report on public satisfaction in policing and District Policing Partnerships.
"This survey of local policing, which consults directly with the communities that we serve, helps us to define and deliver the policing service that people want and need.
"We are greatly encouraged by the level of confidence shown by local communities in their policing service. We continue to maintain their support and at a time when we face great challenges, community confidence and belief in what we are achieving helps to strengthen the foundations of community policing.
"The challenges we face are not diminishing but, with increased community support and assistance, we are confident that we can defeat those who wish to damage the very communities from which they come.
"It is important to note that a majority of people want to see increased patrolling in their local areas. We are working to achieve this as we reorganise our service delivery and bring increased numbers of officers back into frontline policing. The introduction of our Policing Commitments in the autumn will clearly show communities the level of service we intend to deliver, in partnership with them, listening to their needs. Crime levels are at an all time low but we understand that people need to feel safe and need to know that we are listening to their concerns. The Commitments embody our aspiration to deliver personal, accessible, consistent and accountable policing to every single person, family and community in Northern Ireland.
"We look forward to working closely with the Northern Ireland Policing Board in the coming weeks and months as we tackle the challenges ahead. The renewed commitment by the Northern Ireland Policing Board to increase the profile of District Policing Partnerships should help our communities have their say on policing priorities. We would encourage public support of these partnerships as a way of impacting directly and positively on the policing service in local communities."
