Police rescue, Mourne Mountains

On Saturday 6 March, police rescued 14 people who became stranded in the Mourne Mountains.

At around 5.25pm, police received a call from a person who reported that they and 13 other individuals were lost in the area of Cove Mountain. PSNI Air Support was tasked, along with land crew back up.

All 14 persons were removed from the mountain by the police helicopter. There are no reports of any injuries and all the individuals are reported to be in good physical health at this time.

Inspector Kieran Quinn praised the professionalism of PSNI colleagues, in particular the personnel from the Air Support Unit.

He said: "Our pilots performed magnificently in very difficult circumstances. They coped with fading light conditions and tricky terrain to perfect a safe and successful rescue effort. We are delighted that all concerned have been returned safe and well."
