15 Aug 2010
The security alerts in Lurgan were declared over around 2:40 am this morning (Sun 15 Aug). A number of suspicious objects were examined three proved to be elaborate hoaxes and the fourth was a viable device which exploded without warning in Kilmaine Street injuring three children.
CI Sam Cordnor reiterated his statement from yesterday condemning these cowardly attacks. “The fact that police received a warning that a device was left in one area and a device actually exploded in another has similarities to the Omagh bombing that we would not like to see repeated,” he said.
He also condemned the attacks on his officers who suffered a sustained attacked with petrol bombs and missiles whilst trying to protect this community. CI Cordnor called on all right minded members of the community to assist the PSNI in bringing these criminal to justice. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Lurgan on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
