03 Aug 2010
Police and ATO remain at the scene of an explosion that occurred at the front of Strand Road police around 3:24am this morning. Damage was caused to the station and the perimeter wall. No one was injured. The explosion follows a telephone warning of a device being planted at the station.
A cordon has been out in place from Laurencehill to Assulym road and from Lower Strand road at Queen’s Quay to Harbour Square closing the expressway. Major disruption will be caused to the surrounding commercial premises for the rest of the day.
It is believed that a taxi driver was approached at Cooke Street by two men, one armed with a gun. An object was placed in his vehicle and he was told to drive to the station.
