Why did you join the Police Service?

I joined the police as I wanted a career that was diverse, exciting and challenging. Sitting in an office isn't for me - I wanted a role where I could be active and out and about in the community. I thought a career in the police would help me achieve this as it would be a varied and unpredictable role. Additionally, I love where I live and wanted the opportunity to make a positive impact on my area. Joining the Police Service of Northern Ireland was always something I wanted to do and I am glad I have finally done it.

What do you enjoy most about your role as a Probationary Police Officer?

I enjoy many things, but what stands out the most is the variety of training opportunities available during the first two years, along with the refreshers you get to complete. I really enjoy learning new skills, which makes this experience particularly fulfilling for me.

What do you find most challenging?

What I found the most challenging, surprisingly, was adjusting from a 9-to-5 job to shift work - along with managing the paperwork!

What do you hope to achieve in your career?

There are several areas I would like to explore in my career, such as joining Neighbourhood Policing or Economic or Financial Crime teams. However, my ultimate goal is to complete Armed Response training in the future.
