Highway disruption can be a frustrating experience for any driver. It is important that you remain calm and avoid taking any action that may put the safety of you or others at risk. Highway disruption can be caused by, amongst other things:
- A road traffic collision
- Items or debris in the roadway
- Slow moving vehicles
If you come across debris in the road DO NOT exit your vehicle and attempt to remove it. If the debris or any other disruption poses a risk to road users, please contact Police, giving the exact location of the disruption. If required, Police will attend the scene of disruption and take measures to ensure the safety of all road users whilst maintaining the flow of traffic. Occasionally a road may be closed for a period to accommodate emergency vehicles responding to an incident or for other reasons.
If Police close a road, the PSNI press office will usually update media outlets to inform the public of the closure.
Before departing on your journey, you can check for any road closures or other disruptions to traffic on the Trafficwatch NI website.
